Search dataportal for species important to society

The dataportal now allows to select for the ‘status’ of species for conservation (IUCN, CITES), whether they are introduced or invasive, of fishery or aquaculture interest (FAO), harmful, or used as an ecological indicator (MSFD). To retrieve this information, select 'species list' under the data portal.

A two day technical workshop on the the creation of EMODnet abundance gridded data products will be organised in Oostende 11 and 12 March 2015. On the agenda is also the creation of the Operational Oceanographic Products and Services to facilitate the ICES ecosystem assessments.

Gridded abundance data products available

A methodology to create the gridded abundance maps, using DIVA (Data-Interpolating Variational Analysis) has been tested. Currently preliminary data products are available for over 40 species from the North Sea, Baltic Sea and North East Atlantic. The products are made for benthos, zoo- and phytoplankton, birds, fish and mammals.

EMODnet Biology Second General Meeting

The second general meeting took place on the 17th and 18th of September, in Horta, at the Faial Island in the Azores. The activities of year one, were discussed, with a strong focus during discussions on MSFD relevant products. After the meeting, the group was lucky and spotted 2 magnificent sperm whales.

The WP 2 of EMODnet biology held its workshop on species traits and attributes at the Ifremer headquarters form 12 till 13 of February. 25 experts discussed and prioiritzed marine species traits and looked into their application for marine science and management.
