New data product: Benthic occurrences, habitat maps and species traits

Understanding the substrate and habitat preferences of marine benthic invertebrates is important for a number of reasons. It influences their functional role in the ecosystem; it can inform decisions about important habitats for conservation, and it helps identify communities of co-occurring species.
This data product links occurrences of benthic invertebrates from the EMODnet Biology benthic numerical abundance product to two complementary seabed habitat products: the EMODnet broadscale habitat map 2019 (Vasquez et al., 2020), and Wilson et al.'s (2018) synthetic map of the north-west European Shelf sedimentary environment. The product also includes information on the habitat and species sediment preferences from the Biological Traits Information Catalogue BIOTIC database.
We provide these processed data as csv files for machine interoperability and species-level summary reports of substrate affinities as pdf, one file per each of the 1814 species. You can find more information in this link or download here.
