The Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ), the Hellenic Centre for Marine Research (HCMR) and the Istituto Nazionale di Oceanografia e di Geofisica Sperimentale (OGS) have organised an online workshop on data formatting, quality control (QC) & data publishing as part of the EMODnet Biology project (phase III), in June 2020. The goal of this training was to introduce current and future data providers on how to format and submit their data to the project.
In total, 58 people enrolled in the online training course, representing 33 institutes from 14 countries within and outside of Europe. Upon completion of the course and a general evaluation by the participants, we have assessed the feedback provided. We are happy to announce that the training course has now been opened up, so everyone wishing to explore it, can create an account through the OceanTeacher platform and access all the materials, including the quizzes and assignments that were used during the original training and their solutions.
All the questions that were asked during the organised online sessions have been added to a ‘Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)’ section, as an extension of the content in the training course. In addition, a pdf-version of the training material is offered through the OceanTeacher platform, allowing for an easy search through its content and as an offline backup for our users.
Although the course was specifically targeted at the EMODnet Biology project, all of its content is of wide use to scientists and data managers who are considering sharing their data with e.g. the European node of the Ocean Biodiversity Information System (EurOBIS), any of the OBIS-subnodes or GBIF, or to scientists who are just looking for a way to standardise and quality control their data.
If you have an interest in how data are being managed and submitted to EMODnet Biology and related initiatives such as EurOBIS and OBIS, do not hesitate to go through the online training material on
