Abstract
    Dedicated gas-hydrate research in Lake Baikal started in 1999 and is still ongoing today, predominantly being conducted by Russian, Belgian and Japanese scientists. Over the years, our understanding of the gas-hydrate occurrences in Lake Baikal has increased tremendously. Yet, a number of issues still have to be resolved. These issues will be discussed below in general terms.
