In the late summer, between the end of August and during September, there was once again a bloom of the euglenoid Euglena spec. on several beaches along tbe Belgian coast. The phenomenon has been observed now for the second year in succession. The 1999 bloom seemed to be heavier and more extensive than the one in the previous year. Most likely the phenomenon was due to an inflow eutrofic water .
