Description
Sampling data on loggerhead sea turtles (Caretta caretta) and microbial composition of sea turtle-associated diatoms of skin and carapace. more
Sampling was done in the turtle rescue centre Anton Dorhn in Portici, Napoli during an ASSEMBLE Plus Transnational Access (TA) visit in May 2019. The external surfaces of eight turtles together with control samples from the rehabilitation pools were sampled and stored. Individual cells of diatoms were isolated and samples of 4 carapaces were studied using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). Next to this relative abundance data of diatom species of the surface biofilm in these samples are generated in SZN using metagenomics (16S and 18S amplicon sequencing).
